Each May, the Aldine Scholarship Foundation (ASF) presents the Aldine Scholarship Foundation Community Star Award to a distinguished individual who has demonstrated exceptional support for higher education in the North Houston area.

“This May, ASF is honoring M.O. Campbell, former superintendent for Aldine ISD,’ says Ann Swint, ASF president. “We feel M.O. Campbell is the perfect choice for this year’s award. He demonstrated tremendous leadership, vision and support for education during his tenure with the Aldine Independent School District and continues to do so today.”

Campbell, who served as Aldine ISD's superintendent from 1973-86, is being honored for his commitment and dedication to educating the youth of the Aldine community for four decades.
Campbell began his educational career in Aldine ISD in 1954 as a teacher. During his 32 years with the district, Campbell also served as a counselor, dean of students at Aldine Senior High School, principal, assistant superintendent of finance, deputy superintendent of finance and in 1973 he was named superintendent of schools.

Previous Community Star Award recipients include NHMCCD Chancellor Dr. John Pickelman, former Aldine ISD Superintendent M.B. "Sonny" Donaldson, former Aldine ISD Superintendent and North Harris College President W.W. Thorne, local businessman Jim "Mattress Mac" McIngvale and Aldine ISD graduate and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Aaron Glenn.

Background
What began in 1989 as Aldine College Endowment Scholarship Foundation (ACESF), the Aldine Scholarship Foundation now awards several $1,000 one-year scholarships to graduating AISD seniors–based on student needs, community service, and high school achievement–to attend any college in the North Harris Montgomery Community College District (NHMCCD). NHMCCD comprises Cy-Fair College, Kingwood College, North Harris College, Montgomery College, Tomball College, seven satellite centers and the University Center. Since its inception, the ASF has granted more than $400,000 in community college scholarships. The Foundation’s endowments recently surpassed the $1 million mark. All ASF donations collected are invested and placed in certificates of investment with the principal remaining perpetually untouched. And, foundation’s bylaws specifically forbid expenditures from investment interest on anything but scholarships.
