On Thursday, Nov. 2, North Harris College will host two special events featuring internationally renowned marimba artist, Linda Maxey. The artist will first present a free clinic/master class for interested percussionists and area residents, 10:30 a.m. to noon in NHC’s Fine Arts Building, room FA-108. Reservations are not necessary, walk-ins are welcome, and you do not have to be a registered student to participate in the clinic. At 7:30 p.m., Maxey will perform a concert for marimba and piano in the college’s Performing Arts Theatre, 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive, Houston. Tickets are $10. Background
Linda Maxey was the first marimbist on the roster of Columbia Artists Management in New York and has performed hundreds of concerts throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. Her New York debut was in 1990 at the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall. She was a featured artist at the 1999 Journees de la Percussion international percussion festival in Paris and was the first marimbist to perform at the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague in 2002 and also at the International Festival de Musica in Portugal in 1994. She received a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award in 1998 and again in 2003 to teach in Lithuania and an Arts Link Award in 1999.
