On Nov. 1 and 2, students and faculty at North Harris College took time to observe a unique “Día de los muertos” display honoring Carlos Cortez a Latino artist, painter, poet, and printmaker, whose work is in a permanent exhibition at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum in Chicago. Cortez’s lifetime goal was to communicate that “art is essential to the human experience.” He sought throughout his life “to disseminate his art, to all and for all, for all time. Funded in part by a Title V Department of Education grant, NHC professors Anita Rogers, Carmen Bárcenas, Bertha Ibarra Parle and Adriana Mills garnered Esther Soler, a Chicago Latino museum curator and consultant, to direct and help set up the display featuring Carlos Cortez.
