Every full-time employee receives a comprehensive health insurance program through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas. This comprehensive health plan is paid in full by the District. New employees must wait 90 days after beginning work to be eligible for coverage under the plan. At the beginning of employment, the employee may elect to include family members on the District's health plan. (Like the employee's coverage, dependent coverage for new employees does not commence until 90 days after the first day of employment.) Since 1999, when the State passed on premium costs increases for dependent coverage, the District has covered the cost of the increases and has not passed on these extra costs on to employees.
