November 02, 2006 @ 1:30pm: Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

Dia de los Muerto as defined by Wikipedia.com:

Though the subject matter may be considered morbid from the Anglo Saxon perspective, Mexicans celebrate the Day of the Dead joyfully, and though it occurs at the same time as Halloween, All Saints' Day and All Souls Day, the traditional mood is much brighter with emphasis on celebrating and honoring the lives of the deceased, and celebrating the continuation of life; the belief is not that death is the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage in life.

Come learn about this fascinating custom and traditions while enjoying pan de muerto (bread of the dead).

Prior to these events, everyone in the North Harris College community is invited to bring photocopies of pictures of their loved ones who have died, especially those who have departed in the past year. Please bring the framed copies to the Library’s second floor circulation desk by Thursday, October 26. Label the frame with your loved one’s name and, if you wish, include a few words about him or her. Please put your name and department or telephone number on the back.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this remembrance.
