Hazlewood:


In order to receive Hazlewood we will need the following information:

  1. Application for Tuition Exemption under the Hazlewood Act (Section 54.203 of the Texas Education Code) Page 1 & 2 (see attached).

  2. Photostatic Copy of your Active Duty DD214. This document must show "Place of Entry into Active Duty" as Texas, your Type of Discharge or Character of Service as "Honorable" or those "Discharged under Honorable Conditions," and Total Active Service must be "180 days (6 mos.)". Note: Veterans discharged under a "Dishonorable" discharge status are not eligible to receive benefits under the Hazlewood Act.

  3. A letter from the Veterans Administration Regional Office verifying that there is no remaining entitlements for educational benefits under the VA. The VA Office telephone number is (800) 827 - 1000.

  4. Request for record of credit hours taken under the Hazlewood Exemption for Texas Veterans from previous Post-secondary schools effective for Fall '95 according to Section 54.203 (c) of the Texas Education Code which limits the number of credit hours taken under the Hazlewood Act Exemption to 150 credit hours (see attached).

    • A Photostatic copy of your 1999 federal income tax return (1040, 1040 EZ, or 1040 A).

      OR

    • A photostatic copy of your college or university diploma documenting your achievement of a bachelor's degree.


Continuing Students:


Students who have applied for the Hazlewood Tuition Exemption for 1999 - 2000 can update their eligibility for 2000 - 2001 by completing the following documents:


  1. Application for Tuition Exemption under the Hazlewood Act (Section 54.203 of the Texas Education Code) Pages 1 & 2. (see attached).

  2. A photostatic copy of your 1999 federal income tax return (1040, 1040 EZ, or 1040 A).

Federal College Work-Study Program (On-Campus Employment)

For information on College Work Study please contact the financial aid office.


Veterans Affairs:


Veteran Affairs packets are available in our financial aid office. The students can complete the packet and the financial aid office will forward it to the V.A. office. Beginning April 2000 the Veterans Services Specialist will be available North Harris College (Financial Aid Area 8a.m.-12p.m.) on the first Monday and third Thursday of each month for assistance in utilizing your Veterans Educational Benefits.
