In order to graduate as an Honors Scholar, a student must succesfully complete nine hours of Honors classes and complete 25 hours of off-campus community service

In order to graduate as an Honors Scholar with Distinction, a student must complete fifteen hours of Honors course work and complete at least 25 hours of off-campus community service.

In both cases, the service requirement must be completed within a single semester according to the requirements listed below:

The service requirement may be fullfilled in one of the following ways:

1. Continuing with an on-going community service activity
   
2. Contracting for service with an agency or organization of the student's choice

• Students interested in becoming Honors Scholars must attend an orientation meeting at the beginning of the Fall or Spring Semester.
• At this meeting, students will complete an application and will receive necessary information needed to complete the requirements of the program.
• By the end of the third week, students will submit a Community Service Contract to the Service Coordinator. This contract will include the name of the organization for which service will be done, a description of the project and a signature of the Project Supervisor.
• Students will keep a written log of service activities. This log must be signed by the Project Supervisor.
• Upon completing 12 of the 25 hours, students will meet with the Service Coordinator to discuss the progress of their project.
• The Service Coordinator will contact the Project Supervisor to discuss student progress.
• Students will make a formal presentation of their project at Honors Day. Presentations may be delivered orally or may be presented visually.
• Students will write a (1,000 word minimum) synthesis paper about their project. A copy of this paper will be kept on file at the North Harris College LRC. The paper will be due on Honors Day.
