Operational Plan #6 - Chemical Spills /Hazardous Materials
Chemical and hazardous materials spills may be life and environmentally threatening
and demand immediate containment of the spill and safe evacuation of the area.
College Police should be immediately notified at 281.618.5555. They will notify
Fire officials (if needed) and the Buildings and Grounds Department.
Evacuate the immediate area of the spill. Other areas may be evacuated or
isolated in place.
Persons should assemble no closer than 500 ft. from the spill, remaining
up slope and up wind of the spill area.
Instructors should close doors to affected areas, and take roll books with
them.
Police/haz-mat officials will arrange for the proper clean up of the area.
In some cases, extended isolation of the spill may be necessary.
The police director will notify the crisis management team and an evaluation
of the crisis will determine if a school closing or further evacuation is
necessary.
External affairs will prepare any press releases, closing announcements,
etc.
The crisis management team will determine when operations may return to
normal in conjunction with haz-mat and environmental protection officials
