How To Pass This This Class

A college classroom is a formal setting.  You need to be on your best behavior here.  A lot of other people are here to get an education; neither I nor they like being disrupted in the pursuit of our common goal.  To get the most out of this class—and out of your tuition—you will be expected to do the following:

1.         Attend every class meeting.

2.         Be at your desk by the time roll is checked.

3.         Bring your textbook every time and have paper and pen ready to take notes and write papers (If you do not have the appropriate materials for class, you may be asked to leave).

4.         Read all assigned material before you come to class.  Be prepared to discuss it and ask questions about it.

5.         Listen and take notes in class.  If you do not understand something or cannot read something on the board or overhead, raise your hand and ask questions.

6.         Unless some medical emergency arises, do not leave class for any reason until you are dismissed. If you walk out of class, you will be recorded as absent.

7.         Do not talk to classmates after the class has started. You will miss important information; it is rude behavior.

8.         Stay awake. You cannot understand what you do not hear; sleeping in class is also rude behavior.

9.         Follow directions for the various class assignments explicitly.

10.       Turn in all assignments on time without excuses.  Nobody likes a complainer.

11.        Take care with your assignments.  Do not turn in messy or slipshod work.

12.        Do not cheat.  Cheating is unethical and immoral. Plagiarism is cheating.

Copying from a book, magazine, newspaper or another student is plagiarizing;  downloading a paper from the internet and turning it in is cheating.  Cheating is the quickest way for you to fail or be dropped from this class.

13.       Turn off all cell phones and pagers when entering this class.
