1301: ARGUMENT/ PERSUASION PAPERS

Specifications

WARNING: Failure to follow these directions will result in failure!

I. Topics: You may write only on one of the topics on the list handed out in class.

II. Length: A minimum of 4 pages, double-spaced, typed with standard type (Times New Roman) and font size (12) and 1 inch margins.

III. Sources: A minimum of 3 sources must be cited, one of which must be an article in a magazine or journal (excluding newspapers); reference sources may be used, but they cannot be counted toward the 3 required sources; one source must not be from the internet.

IV. Xeroxes: Copies of relevant pages of sources must be turned in with the paper.

V. Outline: A formal, three-level sentence outline is required with this paper.

VI. Format: Follow standard format but include a title page and a works cited page. Do not fold this paper; leave it flat and attach the pages and xeroxes with a paper clip.

VII. Form: The paper must follow the standard Aristotelian argument form as explained in class and the text.

VIII. Quotations and Citations: Follow MLA guidelines as explained in Holt and class handouts. Not more than about 20% of your paper should be drawn directly from your sources (direct quotations or paraphrases).

IX. Penalties: Papers must be the required length and are due at the beginning of class on the day specified in your schedule.
