Transitive
Verbs take a Direct
Object:
The boy hit the ball. The cat
ate the bird. The dog chases
the cat.
Intransitive
Verbs cannot take an object:
The girl laughed. The young man cried. The cat smiled.
Linking
Verbs, such as forms of the verb “to be,” “feel,” and “seem” connect
the Subject with a Predicate Noun or a Predicate Adjective:
The girl is president of her class. He is
honest but ambitious.
I feel fine. He seems
well.
