There are two methods of joining
independent clauses to make a single sentence.
Combine any two independent clauses with a comma
and a coordinating conjunction. The coordinating conjunctions are: and, but, so, yet, for, or.
Examples: I like philosophy,
but I
do not like sociology.
He went to college when he was seventeen, for
the war was going on and he did not want to be in it.
He studied hard in school, yet
it was not because of compulsion.
