THE FORMAL TECHNICAL REPORT

I. APPEARANCE. The report must be printed on a standard size and weight paper. After the final printing, whether you do it or someone else does it, be sure to proofread it carefully. Keep a 1 1/4" margin on the left side because of the cover, and 1" margins on the top, bottom, and right hand sides. Use a standard and 12 point font size and double space. The report must have a cover.

II. PARTS

III. HEADINGS. (RTI, 209-15). Only four levels of headings should be used in this report. The headings indicate the parts and subparts of your report and reflect the organization determined in your outline. Your outline (a topic outline) is set up in the Contents at the beginning of the paper. Therefore the entries in the Contents must be exactly the same as the headings in the body of the report.

IV. PAGINATION. Paginate in the upper right-hand corner of the paper, 1" from the top and right side. Double space after the number before beginning your text.

V. SOURCES. Sources should be available in the NHC library or available to me on request.

VI. Grade. The term report will equal approximately one-fourth of the total number of points possible in the course.

VII. Length and Due Date: A minimum of 10 body pages is required ( graphics should not exceed 2 pages unless the paper is longer than 10 pages). The paper is due at 7:30 a.m. on April 26, 1996.

VIII. Penalties: Late papers will be penalized 10% of the assigned grade for each calendar day they are late; papers with less than 10 body pages of text will be penalized 10% for each page (or 5% per half page) less than the required minimum.
