Akhaians (a-kē'-anz): Greeks.

Danaans (dan-ā'-anz): Greeks, descendants of Danaos (dan-a-us).

Argives (ar-jī'ves): Greeks, from Argos.

Agamemnon (ag-a-mem'-non): Son of Atreus (ā'-trē-us) and commander of the Greek army, one of the Atreidai (a-trī'-de).

Menelaus (men-e-lā'-us): Brother of Agamemnon and husband of Helen, also one of the Atreidai.

Akhilleus (a-kil'-ez): Son of Peleus (pē'-lus) and Thetis (thē'-tis) from Phthia (thī'-a); his men are called Myrmidons (mur'-mi- donz), ant-men

Patroklos (pa-tro-klus): Companion of Akhilleus and son of Menoitios (me-nē'-shi-as).

Diomedes (di-o-mē'-dēz): Son of Tydeus (tī'-dus).

Aias (ā'-as): Roman Ajax; son of Telamon (tel'-a-mon), not to be confused with Aias, son of Oileus (o-i'-lus); both are called Aiantes (ā-an'-tez).

Idomeneus (ī-dom'-e-nus): King of Crete, son of Deucalion (du-kā'-li-on).

Nestor (nes'-ter): A wise counselor from Pylos (pī'-los) called the Gerenian (je-ri'-nian) horseman.

Kalkhas (kal'-kas): A soothsayer, son of Thestor (thes'-tor) who was the son of Apollo.

Phoinix (fē'-niks): Old and wise counselor of Akhilleus.

Odysseus (o-dis'-us): King of Ithaka (ith'-a-ka).

Khryses (krī'-sez): Priest of Apollo.

Khryseis (krī-sē'-is): Daughter of Khryses.

Briseis (brī-sē'-is): The prize of Akhilleus taken by Agamemnon.

Iphigenia (if-i-je-nī'-a): Daughter of Agamemnon sacrificed at Aulis (ō'-lis), port of Boeotia (bē-ō'-sha).

Priam (prī'-am): King of Troy or Ilium (il'-i-um).

Hektor: Champion of Troy.

Andromakhe (an-drom'-a-kē): Wife of Hektor and daugher of Eetion(ē-ē'-ti-on).

Astyanax (as-tī'-a-naks): Son of Hektor, also called Skamandrios (ska-man'-dri-os) after the river Skamander.

Hekabe (hek'-a-bē): Wife of Priam and mother of Hektor.

Laodike (lā-od'-i-sē): Sister of Hektor.

Paris: Also called Alexandros, champion.

Helen: The “face that launched a thousand ships.”

Antenor (an-te'-nor): Counselor of Priam, Greek agent, and husband of Theano (thē-ā'-no).

Poulydamas (po-lid'-a-mas): Companion of Hektor.

Deiphobos (de-if'-o-bus): Brother of Hektor; after Paris' death he married Helen by force.

Troilus (tro'-i-lus): Son of Priam.

Aeneas (e-nē'-as): Son of Anchises (an-kī'-sēz) and Aphrodite; founder of Rome.

Kassandra (ka-san'-dra): Prophetess of Apollo.

Skaian (sē'-an) Gates: Chief NW entry into Troy.

Pergamos (pur'-ga-mos): The citadel of Troy.

Phrygia (frij'-i-a): The country around Troy.
