to reform human vice and folly. Satirists believe that humans should be better
than they are and that human nature can be reformed.
Tools: Ridicule, laughter, irony, exaggeration,
understatement.
Types:
Horation: A gentle attack on the foibles and follies of fellow humans.
Juvenalian: Pointed, acerbic attacks on the excesses of vice and folly of particular human
types or individuals.
