Nursing Program Admission Criteria

In addition to the College admission requirements, there are THREE criteria for the ADN program that must be met prior to submitting an application.

Criterion #1

This criterion can be met in one of the following ways:

1. 10 or more academic semester hours of courses required in the NHMCCD Associate Degree Nursing degree plan (excluding PHED). Students must have a 2.5 or better grade-point average in these courses or
2. a standard composite score of 19 or above on the ACT taken in October 1989 or later (prior to October 1989 a composite of 17 is acceptable or
3. an earned degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Criterion #2

A level of reading proficiency can be demonstrated in ONE of the following ways:

• score of 41 on the reading section of the ASSET test or
• college level score on reading section of COMPASS or
• scoring a 19 on the reading section of the ACT or
• score of 65 on the VA subsection of CELT.

The nursing program requires an appropriate reading score REGARDLESS OF COMPLETION OF PRIOR COLLEGE ENGLISH COURSES OR COLLEGE DEGREES.

Criterion #3

A level of math proficiency consistent with entry into MATH 1314 College Algebra. Math proficiency can be demonstrated in ONE of the following ways:

• grade of C or higher in Math 0310 or
• college level score on algebra domain of COMPASS or
• score of 270 on TASP Math IF exam was taken since fall 1993 or
• 3 credit hours of college level math on transcript or
• score of 24 on math section of ACT
• score of 520 on math section of SAT.

NOTE: TASP reading scores are no longer accepted for Criterion #2. NHMCCD Math Placement Exam scores are no longer accepted for Criterion #3. All math and reading scores must be submitted with application.
