General Chemistry 1411 is a freshman-level course that introduces the student to chemical stoichiometry, structures and properties of atoms, molecules, and ions, matter in its three states, and periodic relationships. Appropriate laboratory experiments are included. Honors General Chemistry I is applied, real world chemistry that allows students to do independent research on extraction of biologically active natural products from plants. Students will learn to search chemical literature, write research paper, effectively communicate scientific information , and perform good laboratory techniques.
Honors credit for Chem 1411 will be given to those students who successfully complete the following:
- The student must complete his/her regular Chem 1411 Class with at least a B average.
- The student must participate in activities described in Chem 1411 Honors schedule every Friday morning from 9:00 - 12:00 am.
- The student must demonstrate at least 80% mastery on the activities specified in the Chem 1411 Honors contract.
This course is appropriate for science majors, particularly those who pursue a pre-professional degree such as pre-pharmacy, pre-medical, pre-dental, and other health science majors.
