At her request, I have shared the following questions with our Human Resources Manager at MC. Most of them relate to our "Job Seekers" sections. Does anyone know any of the answers?
1. When is the launch time?
2. Please provide documentation and links that we can use to create content for the following page: http://www.montgomery-college.com/Templates/Content.aspx?pid=10188
3. Please provide the new link to use for this legacy application: https://wwwappsdstc.nhmccd.edu/forms/depts/hr/jobapp/jobapp100.cfm
4. Please provide the new link to use for this legacy application: http://wwwappsdstc.nhmccd.edu/forms/depts/hr/jobsearch/jobsearch.cfm
5. Please provide documentation and links that we can use to create content for the following page: http://www.montgomery-college.com/Templates/Content.aspx?pid=10193
6. Please describe the new process for the following: A. New applicants B. Returning applicants
7. Our Call Center will receive calls from outside users. What resources are available to them to support this new application?
8. Is there additional documentation available that we can link to from our respective pages in the MC "Job Seekers" section? If so, please provide documentation and/or links to documentation.
9. Will there be a notice posted on the district Web site that we can reference from the MC Web site?

We got a message from district HR today regarding the launch of the new online employment application. Has anyone been involved in any discussion and/or received any communication regarding this new app?
The application supposedly launches on Monday, September 25.
I'd like to make sure I get all the links updated at MC prior to launch. Do the links to JAR also change? What happens to all the jobs and employment accounts in the legacy system? Does anyone have the URLs for linking to this from the various pages on our Web sites?

Agreed. It's always good if we can work it out that way. Thanks for looking in to it!

Thanks so much for this info Garett!! Is there a notice that we can link to already posted somewhere on the DSTC Web site?

Our art, theatre and music departments would like to sell tickets to performances online. Has anyone investigated this already? Thanks for any insight you may have!!

Oh. Do you mean agenda items for a "special" meeting to talk about the home page. Or, the agenda items from our last meeting that we didn't get to talk about?

Thanks Garett. Will do!!

All good points and I'm so glad you did it. It helped to see something visual.
Garett said he'd follow up and try to get us some kind of meeting scheduled to talk about it. I'm willing to do a couple of mock-ups as well. Maybe if we all show up with ideas and/or visuals it will help push this thing forward.
I'll put some time into it on my end.
I like where you positioned them but I don't like the shape of them. I realize that you're repeating the curve element from the top of the page but I think it creates some awkward white space.
Adding the links to the photo overlay was a "quick fix" recommendation. This particular quick fix could be accomplished in as little as one week. If we're going for a total home page redesign I think we need to consider a number of options. And, in fact, bring together a design team to look at the options.
For example: I've always thought that there should be 4 additional spaces exactly where you've placed them that were collapsed by default but could be expanded by the user. Each "space" would be able to titled whatever the college wanted and would have space for five or so links also defined at the local level.
This would give us the ability to add up to 25 college-specific links to our home pages without cluttering the look of the home pages.
In my opinion, a home-page redesign is a different kind of discussion than what we've had going here so far. I, for one, am up for the discussion...
You bring up an interesting idea a few posts up. Talking to Gandalf ourselves...
It's Eric Hodgson now instead of Shannon Lavett. Do you remember Eric, Cynthia, formerly of STAMATS? He came out when Susan W. thought it would be good to bring in a consultant. Ironic, heh?
Perhaps Eric could set us up a tool for posting questions to Estrada so we don't always have to filter Q&A; through DSTC which is very time consumptive among other things...
Thoughts?
Not yet but probably soon. I'm curious what they'd like to use it for. Here's an interesting article:http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/r/186/report_display.asp
I've heard of it. It's fine. No worries that it doesn't work on our site. There are TONS of free tools and programs we could use to do this. However, I'd prefer to hear from district if Estrada will be including something like this before I go to the trouble of looking for a solution. No sense wasting time...
Bruce you're not alone! Your methodology and mine are one and the same :-) It would be nice to get an Estrada report. Is there a link checker in Estrada reports? How about in the upgrade? Cynthia, did you try out Chris' tool?
We havent been able to talk about this with DSTC Web Team. Anyone got any ideas?
Of course John will do a good job!! John ALWAYS does a good job (that is not in question and never is)!
We (myself and other key stakeholders at MC) would simply like a meeting to go over all the upgrades, how the conversion will be handled, what will be expected of us at MC, what resources we can expect from DSTC Web Team, our college-specific training needs, strategies for training, training schedules, a test environment in which we can work prior to training anyone, and the list goes on and on.
At our meeting last week, there were issues brought up by the college Web Coordinators that did not seem to have been previously considered. This is NOT a negative reflection on the skill of DSTC Web Team ~ it's simply the nature of a district and a system of this size and scope.
In my opinion, face-to-face collaborative discussion and process development are needed even if we have to meet at an odd time to accomodate everyone who is interested in attending.
Here are the questions we asked Jen yesterday. She said she'd try to have answers to us today.
- Is the launch date October 1? - When will a test site be available for us to work with? - When will revised training documentation be available for authors? - When will revised training documentation be available for admins? - When is the first train the trainer session and where will it be held? - Are there any more Estrada mugs or other promotional items that we can use as incentives?
I asked a number of those questions yesterday in an email to Jen. You guys brought up some good questions!! Does anyone care to ask for a meeting? Garett said he'd try to get one scheduled, but as I look at our timeline and the tasks we've identified we need the meeting very soon. Like Tuesday...
We've begun talking about local needs over here at MC regarding re-training. Trying to put together a plan. Does anyone have any ideas that they'd like to share?
Our first brainstorm is:
- 2 levels of training. - One for Power Users (2 hours) - One for Regular Authors (4 hours would include hands-on work and open lab time) - 3 classes the week prior to launch and 3 the week after
Sure would like a meeting with all of you and DSTC Web Team...

Garett, Would DSTC be willing to share how the fix was coded so that those of us who are unable to shortcut to the DSTC drop down can fix our links? Thanks!!!
Elisa Burleigh MC Web Coordinator
Technically, a week or two if you include testing, communication and roll-out. But it's always the politics that take the time...
BTW, Steve and I like the eCampus and My Records links at the bottom of the list. Here's the thinking (somewhat randomly and obviously in my words not Steve's)
We think prospective students is top priority. Also eCampus and My Records are internal support tools/applications. Mixing them in with the "audience" navigation doesn't seem to make a logical grouping.
