Congratulations!

Soon you will be speaking English fluently and accurately. We at North Harris College (NHC) will help you so that your learning experience at the Center will be a positive one, something you will want to share with your family and friends. To facilitate your studies at NHC, we have prepared this orientation manual. Please refer to it as a guide to the programs and services offered to you by the Center. If you have any questions regarding its use, please consult with any NHC Language Institute employee. We are here to help you.

We want to welcome you again to the rewarding experience of learning English. It is an experience that will enrich your life through improved opportunities for you and your family, both here and/or abroad.

Depending on the level of proficiency that you reach, improved skills in English can:

  1. allow you to get promotions at work;
  2. help resolve problems in dealing with English-speaking personnel;
  3. help you deal with English speakers on and off the job;
  4. help you communicate with people at your children's school;
  5. enable you to help your children with their educational process;
  6. help you communicate with your children as they learn more English at school and from their friends; and
  7. allow you to continue your education in a vocational, college or university setting

North Harris College Language Center boasts a staff of excellent instructors, translators, and interpreters. The coordination staff develops innovative curricula for use by students at NHC and in classes held at corporate sites. The Center also provides students with referral counseling, bilingual personnel, social activities, and laboratory materials. All of these services are at your disposal.
