Policies
Welcome to the North Harris College Learning Center. Please help us provide a pleasant, productive environment by following the guidelines below.
Signing In: Please sign-in at the designated computer located near the main desk. Our funding depends on it!
Disk Scanning: Protect yourself from viruses by scanning your disk when you arrive and when you leave. The data you protect may be your own.
Assistance: Lab assistants are available to answer questions. However, they will not do your assignment for you! All assistants will be wearing name tags - don't hesitate to ask for help. Assistants understand the Windows environment and limited Microsoft Word. Questions about specific software packages should be directed to your instructor or a computer aide in the Academic Lab. Assistants are available to help with class-related work only.
Printing: No multiple print jobs, please! Hit the print button one time only. Only class assignments may be printed - do not print materials that are for commercial or private use. Do not make multiple copies of a document - use the photocopy machine in the library for duplication. Lab assistants will delete multiple print jobs.
Games & Chat Lines: The Lab supports class-related work only. No games or chat lines allowed! Anyone working on other types of non-class projects may be asked to leave.
Saving Documents: For your own protection, save your documents frequently. Bring your own disk (disks can be purchased at the NHC bookstore.) Anything saved to the hard drive (drive C) will be deleted at the end of the day.
Hardware and Software: Please do not make changes to the system! Do not rename files, modify system configurations, install personal software, or make copies of any software.
Food and drink: No food or drink allowed in the Lab. Please go to the cafeteria or the snack bar.
Children: No children are allowed in the Lab. NHC cannot be responsible for children in the Lab.
Academic environment: Be considerate of other Lab patrons. Be sure that your behavior does not disturb or offend other students. The display or transmission of any form of sexually explicit messages or material may constitute harassment prohibited in the Lab. (Contact the Lab Director for permission to access potentially offensive material directly relevant to a valid course assignment.)
