my strengths/fresh idea/new perspective: Involvement in the educational process at numerous institutions has allowed me to learn from the approaches of several outstanding teachers; it has also given me the opportunity to observe and adapt to serving a wide range of student abilities and interests; Industrial experience has given me an enhanced appreciation for valuable workplace skills that can be developed upon the framework of course content, e.g. reasoning, communications and teamwork; I am particularly interested in promoting numeracy and scientific literacy among the general public.

i achieve balance in my life by: I believe it is important to continue to learn and develop as one progresses through life. Toward that end, I try to keep some projects going that are altogether distinct from my educational and professional background. Recently, I have been taking courses in Spanish and serving as a docent at the Houston Zoo; I am in the middle of what has become a multiyear project to build a clavichord, an 18th century keyboard instrument that led to the harpsichord, which in turn led to the development of the modern piano; My wife and I enjoy gardening and traveling.
