ORGANIZATION
CHECKLIST
Home
ü
Family: get everyone on board in terms of being supportive of
you while you are in school. Plan for day care if you have children. Keep a
message board and calendar posted to keep everyone informed. Delegate household
chores. Do plan for down time and family fun.
ü
Study area:
have an area that is quiet, and well lit. This is a place where your study
materials can be left undisturbed and ready for use.
ü
Kitchen: stock
with quick and healthy breakfast, snack and lunch foods. Bottled waters, juices
and energy foods will keep you going and prevent you from hitting the vending
machines. Pack your lunch. Plan for quick and easy meals.
ü
Closet:
designate an area for your uniform, shoes, watch, stethoscope and ID badge.
Keep your clinical bag, school backpack and keys in one location. Grab a sweater
or light jacket; even in the warmest of weather, classrooms are sometimes cold.
Keep a work out bag packed and ready to go. Exercise is a great way to reduce
stress.
ü
Bedroom: make
this your retreat, no studying here! Be sure it is dark and quiet to assure a
good night’s rest. Alarms clocks are essential for getting to clinical on
time.
ü Automobile: be sure it is reliable. Have a back-up plan for emergencies. Check out the public transportation services to see if you are on their route. Get to school early to get a good parking spot.
Work
ü
Work & finances:
nursing courses may be
more challenging than others. Plan for extra study time. Not working would
probably be an ideal situation while you are in school, but may not be
realistic. Do try to cut back on your work schedule to allow you the time you
need to be successful. Visit with the Financial
Aid office to see if opportunities exist.
ü
Check it
out: know where and when your class
meets. Have your syllabus and recommended texts. Do recommended readings. Check
WebCt for details. Visit the eCampus
- Student Services site and take the tutorial on WebCt, if you are not
familiar with this classroom resource. Bring your calendar.
