Learning Center Policies
Welcome to the North Harris College Parkway Learning Center. Please help us provide a pleasant, productive environment for everyone by following the guidelines below.
Signing In: Please sign-in at the designated computer located near the main desk. Our funding depends on it!
Disk Scanning: Protect yourself from viruses by scanning your disk when you arrive and when you leave. The data you protect may be your own! This can be done on any computer, and the lab assistant will be glad to show you how.
Computer Use: Computers are provided for educational use only. Priority access will be given to those patrons working on North Harris College Parkway class assignments. Others may be asked to leave a computer when absolutely necessary to accommodate the needs of such patrons. Please bring a floppy disk with you if you wish to save any material. Your material can not be saved to the hard drive.
Printing: Please do not print excessive amounts of paper copies. If an online document exceeds more than ten pages, copy the desired selections to a Word document and print only the pages needed. If you are printing a document solely for the purpose of being able to read it again later, please save it to your disk. Please print only one copy of any document, and make more copies on the copy machine if needed. If you have problems printing, please ask the lab assistant for help - do not print again. The Learning Center Manager reserves the right to limit printing by those individuals deemed to be printing in excess.
Chat Lines: No Computer Chat allowed in the LC. This includes the AOL Buddy System.
Hardware and Software: Please do not make changes to the system! Do not rename files, modify system configurations, install personal software, download software, or make copies of any software. Do not attempt to subscribe to a commercial internet provider. The modem required for AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve, etc., installation is not available on Learning Center computers. Such actions can, among other things, create serious network configuration problems and are, therefore, prohibited. In addition, please do not shut down or turn off any computer.
Food and Drink: No food or drinks are allowed in the Lab.
Cell Phones: Please take your cell phone conversations out to the hall.
Children: Unattended or disruptive children are not allowed in the Learning Center at any time. Children will not be allowed to use the computers unless they are old enough to use a keyboard and mouse properly.
Academic environment: Be considerate of other Lab patrons. Be sure that your behavior does not disturb or offend other students. The display or transmission of any form of sexually explicit messages or material may constitute harassment prohibited under sections AG or DA of the NHMCCD Policy Manual, and is, therefore, strictly prohibited in the Lab. (Contact the Learning Center Manager for permission to access potentially offensive material directly relevant to a valid course assignment.)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
