The road to success is sometimes a long one. That road started for Fira Rodriquez in a small village in central Mexico and led her to Parkway Center. Fira did not have the opportunity to graduate from high school until she immigrated to the United States. A single mother, Fira had a strong desire to learn, but never had the opportunity. All of that changed when Fira received a North Harris College catalog in the mail. Now that her son was older, she decided the time was right to enroll in classes. Although English was a big barrier, Fira succeeded in her classes becoming a GED graduate last spring. She has continued her education through college courses and has earned a Technical Information Certificate. These accomplishments helped her acquire a job in the CCE office at Parkway Center as a bilingual secretary. This will not be the end of the road for Fira. Her dream of learning is still alive, and she plans to work towards an AA degree in information systems from North Harris College. Eventually, she will like to earn the qualifications to work as a network administrator. Success is measured in different ways. Fira is a success by any standard.
