Got an ear for music - an avocation for instruments? Maybe you played professionally at one time and want to maintain your proficiency. North Harris College has a forum for your talents: symphonic or jazz community bands. Both programs combine credit and non-credit students and are open to adults who want to perform in an instrumental ensemble.

The college is offering the opportunity for all community members, college students, or high school students to participate in an instrumental activity through the credit/non-credit symphonic or jazz band courses, which are offered through NHC's community education program this spring. Under the direction of Gary Liebst, North Harris College's professor of music, the bands will consist of students as well as community performers, and it is open to anyone who plays a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument.

According to Liebst, "The North Harris Night Jazz Ensemble, North Harris Community Symphonic Band and the NHC Jazz Band will again be rehearsing this spring during the evenings. Those of you wishing to be 'jazzy' or 'classical' are welcome to join the music rehearsals. Everyone is welcome and instruments are available for rent if needed."

North Harris College is located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Blvd., one half mile south of FM 1960 E., between Aldine-Westfield and Hardy Roads. The college will be closed for the winter holidays Dec. 20 through Jan. 4, 2004.
