NHC hosting Festival of the African Connection
 
North Harris College continues its Black History Month celebrations by hosting a Festival of the African Connection, Thursday, Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with a special performance by the Zulu Connection. The show will take place on NHC’s main courtyard and is free and open to the public.

The Zulu Connection, a performing arts company based in New Orleans, is known for stilt dancing and mystical masquerades. The group pioneered the emergence of works by both African and African American choreographers and is dedicated to preserving the rich cultures of Africa, the Caribbean and Haiti. Founders Shaka and Na'imah Zulu use their highly rhythmic music to foster cross-cultural appreciation and educate the audience on African customs, history, musical instruments, masquerades and legends.

In conjunction with the festival’s stilt walker performance, Evelyn Hubbard with Third World Imports will host an exhibition of traditional African costumes, art, and pottery. Hubbard’s extensive collection of African imports and fashions have been showcased at major events around Houston including the Wortham Center.
