Unique arena theater setting and special makeup draws audience into the action

North Harris College’s division of visual, applied and performing arts will be presenting J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,”directed by John Cash Carpenter, NHC's professor of theater, on April 29 through May 2 in the college’s black box theater.

The intimate setting of NHC’s arena theater draws the audience into the action of the story. A special feature of this particular production is the makeup and costuming created by one of NHC’s visiting artists and student, Phil Nichols, who is affiliated with Façades FX Makeup Lab. This makeup lab has created work for major motion pictures, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Alley Theatre and more. This intense production is not recommended for young children.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday, Apr. 29 to May 1, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 2, with Matinee performance at 2 p.m. and an 8 p.m. evening performance. Tickets are $7 regular admission, $5 for children, students and seniors. All performances will be in the North Harris College Arena Theater  located at 2700 W.W.
