April 1 priority deadline for financial aid apps

North Harris College offers free financial aid assistance service to anyone wanting to attend the college. NHC financial aid advisers can help prospective students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) form as well as helping them to complete the college’s financial aid application. A wide-variety of funding is provided by various sources including federal, state and local governments: community organizations, and individuals to help students meet the cost of attendance.

“But, time is getting short,” says Ken Feld, NHC’s financial aid director. “April 1 is our priority deadline for students applying for scholarships, grants and loans. By meeting the April 1 deadline, they should be able to find out whether they are eligible for financial aid money or loans before the fall semester begins. Certain restrictions apply, so it is best to come in now and discuss your financial aid options with an NHC financial aid adviser.”

It is Feld’s job to help students wanting to attend college clear the first hurdle – the financial one. Feld recommends applicants call the financial aid office at 281-618-5464 before coming in for help, because additional documentation might be needed for certain applications.

The financial aid office hours* are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Fridays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

*Please note, March 13 through 16, office hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The campus will be closed Wednesday, Mar. 17 through Sunday Mar. 20 for mid-semester break and Friday, Mar. 25 through Sunday, Mar. 27 for spring holidays.

North Harris College is located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive, one-half mile south of FM 1960 East, between Aldine-Westfield and Hardy Roads. Registration for summer classes is now in progress. Fall registration begins April 12 for online and telephone registration and April 25 for on-site registration.
