Signing In: Please sign-in at the designated computer located near the main desk. Our funding depends on it!
Disk Scanning: Protect yourself from viruses by scanning your disk when you arrive and when you leave. The data you protect may be your own! This can be done on any computer, and the lab assistant will be glad to show you how.
Computer Use: Computers are provided for educational use only. Priority access will be given to those patrons working on North Harris College Parkway class assignments. Others may be asked to leave a computer when absolutely necessary to accommodate the needs of such patrons. Please bring a floppy disk with you if you wish to save any material. Your material can not be saved to the hard drive.
Printing: The first 5 sheets printed per visit are free. You will be charged $0.05 per sheet for all printing exceeding 5 seets. If you click the print button multiple times, you will be charged for all sheets printed after the first 5. If you are not sure how to print a specific page or section, please ask the student assistant for help.
Chat Rooms and Games: Classroom exchange on Web CT and Campus Cruiser are allowed. No pop chat rooms such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etc. are allowed. No games are allowed on LC computers.
Hardware and Software: Please do not make changes to the system! Do not rename files, modify system configurations, install personal software, download software, or make copies of any software. Do not attempt to subscribe to a commercial internet provider. The modem required for AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve, etc., installat
Food and Drink: No food or drinks are allowed in the Lab.
Cell Phones: Please take your cell phone conversations out to the hall.
Children: Unattended or disruptive children are not allowed in the Learning Center at any time. Children will not be allowed to use the computers unless they are old enough to use a keyboard and mouse properly.
Academic environment: Be considerate of other Lab patrons. Be sure that your behavior does not disturb or offend other students. The display or transmission of any form of sexually explicit messages or material may constitute harassment prohibited under sections AG or DA of the NHMCCD Policy Manual, and is, therefore, strictly prohibited in the Lab. (Contact the Learning Center Manager for permission to access potentially offensive material directly relevant to a valid course assignment.)
