Why Should I Go To A Counselor?
Sometimes just talking about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be helpful. Counselors are good, supportive, and objective listeners and can help you clarify your issues.
If you feel that you need help making choices about career, education, and personal issues, talking to a counselor is a good idea. Support services for students with disabilities are also coordinated through counseling services.
What Is The Scope Of Counseling Services?
You may have concerns covering a wide range of life situations. These are just a few of the situations with which counseling may help:
- Improving relationships in your life
- Developing a process for decision making
- Setting Goals
- Choosing a major or a career
- Identifying support services for disabilities
- Learning to be more assertive
- Feeling better about yourself
- Learning difficulties which suggest use of our diagnostic services to identify learning disabilities
- Overcoming a loss or a painful event
- Time management
- Coping with situations over which you have no control
Is Anyone Going To Know What We Talk About?
Any meeting between you and a counselor is considered private and your disclosures are kept confidential. However, counselors are required by law and the rules of their profession to report cases where they feel that physical harm may occur to you or others.
How Do I Begin?
Counseling is available in the Counseling Center in the Academic Building, Room A-104. Services are FREE to all students. Individual counseling is offered to students on an appointment basis; or on a walk-in basis for brief academic questions. You may ask for a specific counselor or one who is available at a convenient time to help you. If, after an initial visit with a counselor, you decide to meet again, you will then make further appointments as needed.

Survival Tip - "You have to realize that there is something special within you, a basic goodness that you must choose to manifest in every way you can -- toward your family, your profession and your planet. Each of us has something good to offer."
