We are committed to assist you in every way we can, so you may have a wonderful college experience with us. Our office hours are:

7:00 am - 10:00pm, Monday - Thursday,

7:00 am - 8:00pm on Fridays, and

8:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturdays.

Offices are normally closed on holidays unless posted otherwise. Come by and see us.

Admission Policies and Procedures

Once admitted to North Harris College, you may elect to attend any college within the College District. Admission, however, does not guarantee admission to a specific limited-enrollment program. A student may be admitted to the District on any of the following conditions:

• Graduation from a high school accredited by a state department of education and/or a regional accrediting association.
• Transfer from another college or institution.
• Successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) test as certified by a state education agency.
• Individual approval - Students admitted by individual approval are subject to the same policies and regulations as all other students. Students are classified as adults, early admission, international, or exceptional admission. Detailed information on these classifications can be found in the college catalog.

Adult Students

Individuals 18 years of age or older who do not meet any of the requirements may be admitted with special individual approval, provided sufficient evidence is presented that the student can do college work. This may include, but is not limited to, a standardized written test, other measurement instruments or a non-written examination for practical coursework.

Exceptional Admission

Students not meeting the above criteria may contact the Admissions Office for specific information on exceptional admission requirements.

Early Admission Program

A student who has completed the junior year in high school is eligible to apply for this special program the summer prior to the senior year or to be concurrently enrolled during the fall and spring semesters of the senior year. The Early Admission Program at NHMCCD is designed for high school seniors who are capable of successfully completing college-level courses. Provisions for this program can be obtained from the Admissions Office.

International Students

Proper documentation of academic background and financial support, as well as personal interview, are required for international student admission. Call Katie Allison for more information 281.618.5414.

Registration Information

Registration for classes occurs several times throughout the year. Registration dates and procedures may vary and specific registration information is printed each semester in the class schedule booklet. New students who have never attended college are required to attend a New Student Information Session prior to registration. Assessment testing and advising may also be required. Dates and detailed assessment and advising information may be obtained from the Counseling Office.

For a smooth transition into NHC life, each new student is encouraged to bring:

• ACT/SAT scores
• Transcripts from previous colleges attended*
• High School transcript (for special placement in some courses)

*Official transcripts of all previous college work, bearing the seal and appropriate official's signature, are required. Students are asked to bring a copy of previous academic work (transcript or grade report) to registration for counseling/advising purposes. Official transcripts of students who do not enroll will be maintained for three years.

Disability Support Services

North Harris College offers a variety of services and assistive technology to students with disabilities during their education at NHC.

Services may include:

• specialized guidance/counseling
• diagnostic services
• interpreter services
• tutoring.

Some types of assistive technology include:

• personal amplification system
• closed circuit t.v.
• magnifying devices
• Braille production
• scanner/reader
• computers with voice output
• voice-activated computers.

The services and equipment which are recommended depends upon the needs of the individual student and may vary.

Support services for students with disabilities are provided on an individual basis, upon the request of the student. The student provides documentation of the disability, which is used to determine the necessary accommodations to be shared with the appropriate professors. These records are confidential and are separate from the student's other college records.

North Harris College also has a committee which specifically addresses the needs of NHC students with disabilities. This committee ( Committee on Effective Services to Students with disAbilities ) meets regularly to identify and implement strategies which promote the inclusion and success of NHC students with disabilities. NHC works with Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Texas Commission for the Blind and other community agencies in providing services to eligible students.

Non-Traditional Student Support Services

The North Harris College student population is an excellent example of individuals who are often referred to as non-traditional students:

• older students who are beginning their education
• students who are returning to college after several years
• first generation college students (first member of their family to attend college)

These students range in ages from teens to senior citizens, have a variety of goals, may be first generation college students and/or single parents, or previous students returning to pursue new interests. Some non-traditional students are juggling multiple roles including coursework, job duties, family responsibilities and in many cases, financial difficulties. NHC, working in conjunction with the community, assist this diverse population by providing resources, support and information.

A variety of support services are available through the Counseling Center to assist non-traditional students. The Child Care Assistance Program and the Textbook Lending Library, both funded through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act, are resource programs for students pursuing certificates or degrees in a vocational or technical field. Equivalency Chart

If you want to find out how your courses transfer to other universities, you can use the Equivalency Chart located in the Counseling Office, A-104. The chart shows how every course offered at any of the North Harris Montgomery Community Colleges transfers to several major Texas universities. Information on transfer to other Texas or out-of-state colleges not listed in the chart can be obtained by contacting the senior college transfer admissions office.

Make sure that the course you're looking up is needed for your specific degree. Just because a course transfers does not guarantee that you need it for your major.
