Financial Aid

The North Harris College Financial Aid Office believes that no student should be denied the opportunity to receive a quality education because of financial reasons. Therefore, the Financial Aid Office participates in a variety of programs which provide grants, loans and scholarships to help with educational and living expenses of students who demonstrate financial need or qualify academically.

Types of Financial Aid

  1. Grants - do not have to be repaid.
    1. Federal Pell Grant
    2. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
    3. Texas Public Education - State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG)
    4. Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG Resident & Non-Resident)

  2. Loans - must be repaid after you complete your educational program or if you are no longer enrolled at least half-time.
    1. Federal Family Educational Loan Programs (formerly Guaranteed Student Loan Progams)
      1. Federal Stafford Student Loan (Subsidized & Non-Subsidized)
      2. Federal Parent Loan for the Undergraduate Student (FPLUS)
    2. NHMCCD Short Term Loan (STL)
  3. Scholarships
    1. Awarded by NHMCCD
    2. Awarded by outside donor
  4. Work
    1. Federal Work Study Program (FWS)
    2. State College Work Study Program (STCWS)
    3. NHMCCD On Campus Employment

Who Is Eligible?

To receive aid from the major student aid programs, you must:

Survival Tip - All students must be making "Satisfactory Academic Progress" in order to receive financial aid. Completing less than 80% of all classes attempted may result in suspension of financial aid.


How Do I Apply?

( Read all instructions carefully. Accuracy is critical; errors cause delays in processing).

If applying by mail, allow 4 to 6 weeks for a response from the federal processor in th form of a Student Aid Report (SAR). (File your application electronically through the Financial Aid Office. You will receive a Student Confirmation Report and save a significant amount of time).
