Refund Schedule/Financial Assistance

Refund Schedule
Based on the rules of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the following guidelines will be used to determine refunds for college credit class drops or withdrawals:

Class Cancellations: If the college cancels or discontinues a scheduled course, a 100% refund will be granted.

Drop/Add Procedures: If the student wishes to drop a course, it is recommended the student consult with the faculty member before submitting a writtn withdrawal request at the admissions office. This written request may be faxed, mailed or delivered in person. Although students can drop classes up until the official withdrawal date, refunds are only granted if a withdrawal request is submitted prior to dates included in the refund schedule below.

A student may not add a class, without special approval, after the class has met one time.

  2. The drop and add transactions are best made simultaneously, but must be completed the same calendar day.
For unequal credit hour changes:

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is one of the student services provided by the college district. Students who plan to use a grant, scholarship or tuition exemption must have an award on file before registration. Additional information and applications are available in the NHMCCD financial assistance offices.

Tuition Tax Credit
The Tax Relief Act of 1997 allows eligible students to receive a tax credit. Students must be enrolled for at least six credit hours in a degree or certificate program. The tax credit takes effect Jan.1, 1998 and applies to tuition and fees paid for and received after that date. The 1098T form will be mailed to the IRS and to the students on a yearly basis.

Veteran Information
Veterans using their benefits must request certification for each semester they are enrolled by submitting a copy of their paid fee statements to any of the colleges' financial aid offices. The statements may also be mailed to the NHMCCD veterans affairs office at 250 N. Sam Houston Parkway East, Houston, TX 77060

Veterans will only be certified for courses listed on their official degree plans. Veterans must complete all appropriate forms, including notification of address and degree plan changes. These are available in the financial aid office. For more information regarding application or certification for veterans' benefits, contact the financial aid office.

Texas veterans and veterans who enlisted in Texas and are no longer eligible for benefits should check with the financial aid office to see if they qualify for a Hazelwood tuition exemption.
