Counselors Speakers Bureau: SSC counselors are available to present lectures and workshops on a variety of subjects related to their fields of expertise. Primarily, the Speakers Bureau offers NHC faculty at the main campus and at the Parkway and Carver Centers an opportunity to enhance classroom instruction by taking advantage of this resource. Topics include, but are not limited to, identification of personality type, learning styles, effective study skills, stress management, conflict resolution, self-esteem, career planning, decision making and many others. Faculty Consultation and Professional Development: Student Success Center counselors are available to consult with faculty on issues related to student learning, behavior, and performance. New Student Information Session (NSIS): Student Orientation Sessions are required for all entering North Harris College students who have not earned college credits on a transcript. The orientation covers topics such as how to schedule classes, degrees/certificates offered at North Harris College, transfer information, how to choose courses, and campus resources. Orientations are offered during registration months in two formats. Students may sign up for a group session, or they may choose to view the CD version on an individual basis. Support Groups: Support groups provide a place where individuals with similar issues, tasks, challenges, etc., may find emotional support and share helpful information with eachother. Counselors from the SSC are available to facilitiate support groups for various concerns of students and faculty. Caregivers, codependency and ACOA are some of the concerns addressed by NHC support groups. Contact Student Success Center A104, 281/618-5481

W.I.N.G.S. The Women's Information Network for Growth and Support (W.I.N.G.S.) is a collaborative effort of the Junior League of North Harris County, INC. (JLNCH) and North Harris College. The Program assists "women in transition" to reach new levels of achievement and self-esteem. Women in transition may be displaced homemakers, single parents, newly divorced or separated women and empty nesters ready to re-enter the workplace. The program provides volunteers who act as mentors and a space for gathering together for mutual support and networking. The JLNHC also sponsors scholarships that are awarded to participants in the program, and a Clothes Closet designed to provide outfits appropriate for job interviews, or other career related experiences Contact: Kathy McDermott, A104, 281/618-5482 or W.I.N.G.S.
