Want to learn how to communicate with your infant even before they start learning verbal skills? North Harris College's continuing education program is offering a new infant sign language class. The four-day course will be from 1 to 3 p.m., June 18 through 21 and is designed to teach children and their caregiver's essential American Sign Language (ASL) signs for basic communication. Cost for the course is $42 and covers one child and one adult.
Language comprehension begins much earlier than expression of language verbally. Sign language can strengthen fine motor skills and stimulate creative centers of a child's brain. Some additional benefits of teaching your infant sign language are expansion of vocabulary, reduced frustration with communication for the child, and increased aptitude for verbal expression.
