NHC Academy of Lifelong Learning sets October calendar

For $15 dollars a year, area residents can become a member of North Harris College’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) and enjoy a wide-variety of classes being offered throughout the year for free or very low supply cost, but residents must register in advance. ALL is geared toward adults 50 years young and above, but all ages are welcome to join. Growing Flowering Bulbs for the Houston Area, by Master Gardener, Gudrun Opperman, 10 to 11:30 a.m., NHC Bookstore Building, room CBST-102.
Oct. 5 or 6:
Exploring Jones Park: Geology Walk, with NHC Geology Professor, Tom Hobbs, Oct. 5, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to noon, Jesse Jones Park, 20634 Kenswick Drive, Humble, TX 77388.
Oct. 9 to 30:
Introduction to Sewing, with Gerri Fletcher, owner of Sew N Sew, Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Students must bring their own sewing machine, NHC Carver Center, 2330 South Victory Street, Houston, TX 77088.
Oct. 10 to 31:
Writing the Memoir: Women Writing about Life, with Joyce Boatright, author, former journalist and current NHC professor, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, NHC Community Education Building, room CE-104.
Oct. 11 to 25:
Chess for Beginners, with Edward Hesson, Thursdays, 7 to 8 p.m., participants are encouraged to bring their own chess sets if they have them, NHC Community Education Building, room CE-104.
Oct. 15:
ABCs of Travel, by Dr. Glenda Smith, 10 a.m. to noon, NHC Community Education Building, room CE-104.
Oct. 16:
Photography for Travelers: The Basics, by Kathy Adams Clark, 6 to 9 p.m., NHC Community Education Building, room CE-202.
Oct. 22:
The Buzz on Bee Keeping, by Don Witt, 2 to 4 p.m., NHC Bookstore Building, room CBST-102.
Oct. 24:
Book Club: Monthly Book Reading and Discussion, October’s selection is Stormy Weather by Paulette Jiles led by Carole Wiater, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., NHC Community Education Building, room CE-104.
Oct. 25:
Basic Floral Design: Fresh Flowers, with Master Gardener Jan Kramer, 10 a.m. to noon, NHC Bookstore Building, room CBST-102.
