NHC Parkway Center will be hosting a book signing event featuring Sophie Jones, author of Twisted Lies the Novel, Saturday, Oct. 13, 1 to 3 p.m. in Parkway’s Learning Center, Suite 100.
Jones was born in Austin Texas and tentatively classifies her writing as “neo-metro-romance.” Even though she came from a single parent home, Jones excelled through high school in academics and athletics–eventually earning an academic scholarship to The University of Texas. She acknowledges to falling prey to the freshman enticements of new freedoms and ultimately left UT but later picked up her higher education coursework from Austin Community College and Huston-Tillotson College completing a bachelor’s degree in education and moving forward to earn her Masters of Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University in 2002. She is currently working on her doctorate.
Twisted Lies is Jones’ first book, the style of which breaks the mold of African American literature. Characters, Zina and Robert Roman, live the perfect life: lots of money in the bank, a beautiful home in suburban Houston, and they both have wonderful careers (she is a corporate trainer at one of Houston’s largest energy companies and he is a football-star-turned- software-giant). But everything begins to crumble as friends, lovers, and strangers become entangled in ‘Twisted Lies.”
