Background

In 1996, North Harris College and the Junior League partnered to create the Women’s Information Network for Growth and Support (WINGS) program for women in transition. The program was designed to enable women in transition to reach new levels of achievement, self-esteem, self-sufficiency and strength. Junior League members also organized an Angel Tree and Gift program for WINGS students during the holidays. WINGS provided hands-on support for a special group of students who also received close to $90,000 in NHC scholarships through the program.

In 2002, the Junior League expanded their outreach to women in transition by providing volunteers and organizing a Dress for Success Houston at North Harris College. The program was one of 72 Dress for Success affiliates around the nation and the world, which provided interview-appropriate clothing to low income women seeking employment.

Today, Junior League continues its support for North Harris College through a $15,000 endowment, which provides $1,000 in scholarship monies for NHC students every year.
