Article Body

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1 p.m. in North Harris College’s Academic Building, room A-161, World War II veteran and writer of U.S. naval history, Franklyn Dailey, will bring his survivor tales and memoirs about sinkings in the Pacific and Atlantic as well as naval rescues of both friends and foes.

Originally a destroyer gunnery officer, Dailey returned to the U.S. in October 1944 and entered the Navy flight program receiving his Navy wings in Pensacola, Florida on Oct. 16, 1945–just after VE Day. Following the war, he joined search efforts that sometimes came to frustrating ends, including the puzzling Flight 19 loss, the five TBM Avenger planes that left NAS Ft. Lauderdale about 2 p.m. on Dec. 5, 1945, and were never seen again, with no wreckage ever recovered. Additionally, Dailey was interviewed as part of the History Channel feature, Decoding the Past: Mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle.
