NHC celebrates International Education Week, Nov. 12-16

Article Body: HOUSTON (Oct. 26, 07) - In observance of International Education Week 2007, North Harris College is promoting international education and understanding by hosting a week of celebrations Nov. 12 through 16-all events are free and open to the community. Activities include special events each day that will showcase the customs, foods, films, music, dances, guest speakers, and traditional clothing of Africa, Qatar, China, Near and Middle East, Latin America, Europe and the Far East.

The Honorable Chase Untermeyer, Ambassador to Qatar, will be the keynote speaker on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at noon in NHC's Academic Building, room A-126.

On Thursday, Nov. 15, Moodafaruka, a Houston-based band, will perform "world fusion" music, which mixes Flamenco, Middle Eastern, Spanish and Western motifs. Moodafaruka's mission is to remind people of the common values we share, to honor our differences, and promote the celebration of life through music.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. North Harris College has a large international student population. Students representing more than 60 countries attend the college.
