HOUSTON (Nov. 30, 07) – Since 1995, Nissan Motor Corp. USA has been an integral partner to North Harris College’s automotive program, providing financial resources, specialized equipment and the latest Nissan vehicles to facilitate training at the college. The first large gift was in 1997 when Nissan donated $50,000 and $100,000 worth of automobiles.

This past week, Emmett Barnes, technical training instructor for Nissan North America, Inc., and Paul Mathias, Western USA technical training manager, added to the generous support by donating an additional $15,000, a 2006 Murano SUV, and a 2005 Armada SUV at a small ceremony on the campus. Accepting the donation was Dr. Steve Head, president of North Harris College, Allen Rice, acting dean for NHC’s career technology division and David McNally, NHC’s automotive program professor.

“Nissan Technical Training would like to thank North Harris College for their continued support,” says Mathias. “It is wonderful to see that the long standing relationship between North Harris College and Nissan North America (NNA) remains as strong as ever. North Harris College has greatly assisted Nissan North America’s Technical Training Department and the Houston area Nissan/Infiniti dealerships by allowing the use of its facility to conduct our technical training.”

“Periodically, Nissan Instructors travel to NHC to bring factory training to the Houston market. They present NNA curriculum to the local Nissan/Infiniti Technicians using the NHC facility. We also hope the donated money and vehicles will assist NHC’s Automotive Technology Program in staying current with the rapidly advancing technology built into today’s automobiles. To service and repair Nissans and Infiniti's effectively technicians must be well trained in the advanced areas of electronics, computer diagnostics, engine emission control systems and the many automotive mechanical components. A good education requires the use of the latest vehicles, service information, and tools. Our relationship helps to ensure that NHC has current training resources. I look forward to continuing our relationship for years to come,” comments Mathias.

NHC’s automotive program has been reviewed by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation and has full Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Students can earn  one-year certificates to become a General Service Technician, a Chassis and Electrical Technician Specialist, a Power Train and Drivability Technician Specialist or a two-year Associate of Applied Science Automotive Technology degree.
