Kids College Science Classes
Digging Archaeology (6–8, 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Did you ever think that you could learn about your personal history by “digging in dirt?” Well, you can in this class and at the same time have layers and layers of fun! Have an exciting cultural experience, and at the same time learn about the science of archaeology. A mystery treasure is waiting to be discovered each day!
Mastering Math and Money (9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Why do we have to learn our “times tables?” Just can’t get fractions and decimals? Don’t miss this chance to master math and learn how it is applied to every day life.
Oozing, Bubbling Science Experiments! (6–8, 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Our mini mad scientists will participate in “kitchen science” as they discover that mixing together different well-known and not so well-known ingredients will create bubbly, oozy amazing mixtures! They will also explore other fascinating aspects of science. Also in this class, we will explore what makes bread rise, lemons taste sour, and Jell-O so wiggly. Other activities include testing foods for starch, finding the iron in your breakfast cereal, and exploring the chemical properties of other foods you eat every day.
Creepy Crawlers (6–8, 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Calling all entomologists! Here’s your chance to explore the world of bugs. We will be taking a look at flying bugs, crawling bugs, biting bugs, and stinging bugs! You won’t want to miss this chance to get close to your favorite friends! This class will spend time outdoors, but mostly in shaded areas.
Incredible Creatures (6–8, 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
What animal is often called a sea unicorn? Is a red panda really a bear? Did you know that an arrow-poison frog
has enough deadly poison in its skin to kill 1,500 people? If you think that animals are incredible and would like to learn more amazing animal facts, then this class is for you. Not only will you talk about animals and their interesting ways, but you will also get to research them in books, play games, and do hands-on art projects to help you understand and remember all the incredible information that you have learned. This course is a movie based course.
Ultimate Kid Concoctions (6–8, 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Do you love exploring the mysteries of science? If so, you’ll love this ultimate hands-on class where experimenting is the name of the game! You will be introduced to polymers and how they make really cool stuff like instant snow, diaper powder, plastics, and the “Fortune-Telling Fish.” Other fun topics include determining how to make the best bubble solution, discovering which sunscreen actually protects the best, and experimenting with things that glow in the dark.
Crime Scene Investigation ( 9–11, 12–14 age groups)
Calling all crime busters! Come learn about the important data collection techniques used when solving mysteries, including taking fingerprints, footprints, and correctly gathering other crucial clues. We will also study and use invisible ink and learn how to identify different kinds of ink with paper chromatography (and make some great art work, too!). So, join in the fun and see if you can solve the challenges your instructor has for you.
