The Lone Star College-North Harris division of continuing education phlebotomy technician certification program is currently accepting applications for the fall 2008 term.
A phlebotomy technician is an integral member of the medical laboratory team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture. The phlebotomy technician facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens and is often the patients only contact with the medical laboratory.
The program consists of two courses Phlebotomy Theory and Phlebotomy Clinical and begins Sept. 8 through Dec. 12. The courses cost is $486 and $606 respectively. Students will also be required to pay a $19 insurance fee for students enrolled in low risk health specialties. All students in the program must have completed Hepatitis B series before attending clinical, be subject to a background check and attend a mandatory orientation session.
