Information Sessions
In order to assist in your learning more about nursing as a career and the particular requirements of our program, nursing information sessions are held throughout the year in the Winship Building on the North Harris College campus. Each session lasts about one hour. No reservations are needed. You are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions.

Ask-the-Nurse
Ask-the-Nurse is an informal discussion series featuring a member of the Nursing faculty at North Harris College. Prospective Nursing students can ask questions about how to prepare for and what to expect from nursing school, and listen to the educational and professional experiences of faculty members. The Ask-the-Nurse session is just 30 minutes and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and join in.
For specific information about admissions requirements for the NHC Nursing program, please attend an information session rather than Ask-the-Nurse.
Janice Hemphill, RN, MS

Jan will be discussing her student nurse experiences at Baylor, and her long career as a registered nurse and nurse educator. Ms. Hemphill will also talk with students about skills labs and hospital clinicals in nursing school and how Biology courses and labs (A&P; and Microbiology) figure in to nursing school success.
Marinela Castaño, RN, MSN

Mari went back to school for her RN after receiving her bachelors degree in Community Health from Texas A&M.; Mari completed the BS to RN/MSN program at UT-Austin and received her RN and her Master’s degree in the same program. That’s right! Ms. Castaño completed her RN degree while pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing degree. (And yes, Mari is an Aggie AND a Longhorn.) In this session, Mari will talk about her educational and professional experiences in nursing and discuss the importance of “soft” skills in nursing (communication, psychology, sensitivity to special populations, etc.).
