Nursing Program Admissions/Retention Counselor
Carla M. Porter serves as the department’s Academic Counselor. Before joining the Lone Star College-North Harris team, Ms. Porter worked for five years as a recruiter and advisor for Blinn College’s Technical and Workforce Education Division, which includes several Allied Health programs. Carla is available to assist potential students with admission requirements, new students with orientation activities, current students with study skills and remediation activities, and finishing students with graduation requirements

Because of the volume of students Carla serves, it is recommended that you become familiar with the program’s website in addition to attending one of the scheduled information sessions before scheduling a time to visit in person; however, Carla will see students on a walk-in basis as time allows.
The 2009 application and testing period for the Associate Degree Nursing programs at Lone Star College-North Harris will begin on January 12, 2009. Applications will be due on March 2, 2009. HESI Testing will be available starting Monday, January 12; admissions applications will be available on-line on Wednesday, January 14. Please visit the nursing dept homepage for more information.
Meeting the minimum requirements will not be enough to secure a spot in our nursing program. If you are a new student just starting to work on your prerequisites or if you are unclear about our requirements, I strongly encourage you to view the online information session or attend an in-person information session as soon as possible.
I will be on campus from 8:30-4:00pm Monday through Friday (other times by appt). You can request an appointment by email but an appointment is not required. Although I am on campus Monday through Friday, I am called away to handle business in other offices and to attend meetings. I also take lunch around noon.
