Family: get everyone on board in terms of being supportive of you while
you are in school. Plan for day care if you have children. Keep a message board
and calendar posted to keep everyone informed. Delegate household chores. Do
plan for down time and family fun.
Study area: have an area that is quiet, and well lit. This is a place
where your study materials can be left undisturbed and ready for use.
Kitchen: stock with quick and healthy breakfast, snack and lunch foods.
Bottled waters, juices and energy foods will keep you going and prevent you
from hitting the vending machines. Pack your lunch. Plan for quick and easy
meals.
Closet: designate an area for your uniform, shoes, watch, stethoscope
and ID badge. Keep your clinical bag, school backpack and keys in one location.
Grab a sweater or light jacket; even in the warmest of weather, classrooms
are sometimes cold. Keep a work out bag packed and ready to go. Exercise is
a great way to reduce stress.
Bedroom: make this your retreat, no studying here! Be sure it is dark
and quiet to assure a good night’s rest. Alarms clocks are essential for getting
to clinical on time.
