Required Immunizations and Hep B Vaccine
All students in health occupation courses who will be in direct patient contact are required to have documented evidence of current immunizations against a range of diseases and must pass an annual tuberculosis screening before beginning their clinical experience. Once accepted into the program, students must use the
Documentation of Required Immunizations to verify their coverage. Documentation of immunizations are not required at the time of application but will be requested after students have been admitted. Specifics will be outlined at the new student orientations.
The Hepatitis B vaccine is given in three separate doses over a two to six month period. The series must be completed before any student is allowed to participate in a clinical class. As this requirement is now state law, no exceptions can or will be made. Since the Hepatitis B series takes six months to complete, we advise prospective students to at least begin this series before turning in their nursing admissions application.
Spring Hepatitis B Immunization Center at LSC-North Harris
In order to assist students and prospective students who are not already immune to Hepatitis B, Lone Star College–North Harris is conducting an Immunization Clinic once each month. Each dose of the vaccine is $30.00, payable at the Lone Star College–North Harris Business Office. No appointment is necessary. Spring 2009 Immunizations for Hepatitis B will be held in Winship 151 from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays:
January 23
February 20
March 20
April 24
(There will be no center in May)
$30 per shot, per person. Pay in the Lone Star College–North Harris Business Office (Academic Building) and bring your receipt. This is NOT a full-service immunization center. General immunization questions should be directed to your primary care physician.
