This unique scholarship provides financial assistance to a deserving student who is dealing with a catastrophic medical situation while pursuing an education at North Harris College. Funds for the award come from the Judy Taylor Scholarship created in honor of NHC’s Dean Taylor, who has been courageously battling metastatic melanoma cancer for approximately four years, while continuing to teach math students and direct NHC’s mathematics, engineering and natural sciences division. This year’s award was possible due to the generosity of college friends, faculty, staff and students, who have hosted numerous fundraisers to create the scholarship fund. Fundraisers exceeded a goal of $15,000 for an endowed scholarship, which allowed an overage of $1,200 of the Judy Taylor Scholarship monies to be immediately awarded while the balance of $15,000 will eventually produce a $1,000 scholarship each and every year for perpetuity.
