About Dr. Steve Head, NHC President

Steve Head has worked for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District (NHMCCD) in a variety of increasingly responsible roles. He recently served as the Executive Vice Chancellor for the district, the third largest community college system in Texas with an enrollment of more than 49,000 students each semester. His responsibilities include oversight for instruction, student development, workforce development, human resources, information technology services, community education, distance learning, police services, institutional research, and The University Center. Dr. Head was President of Kingwood College, NHMCCD, from 1991-1999.

He is active in community, civic and economic development issues in the region, and has a number of leadership roles in regional organizations. He most recently served as Vice President for Economic Development for the South Montgomery The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the East Montgomery County Scholarship Foundation Board and is on the Advisory Board for The Woodlands Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Head is active in community college affairs, serves on several state and national committees, is a frequent presenter at professional conferences, and has written several articles on community college issues. He periodically teaches classes in either History or Higher Education for NHMCCD or one of its partner universities.

His academic background includes a Ph.D. in History from Texas Tech University. He is also a former community college student.

His focus is on student access and success, community and workforce development, community partnerships, employee well being, and accountability.

Dr. Head and his wife reside in Kingwood, Texas, and have four children—all of whom have attended an NHMCCD college.
