Presidential Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college mission in a multi-college setting;
- demonstrated success and commitment to cultural competency evidenced by a successful history of working effectively with bilingual, multicultural, and international communities;
- successful teaching experience preferred;
- significant educational leadership experiences that demonstrate a knowledge and support for the teaching/learning process as well as a focus on learning and student success across the breadth of the community college programs: academic, workforce, community education, student support services, financial aid and technical;
- a commitment to high standards of achievement for all students, including those enrolled in developmental and pre-college programs;
- experience creating an open campus environment that encourages risk taking and balances experimentation, creativity and innovation with tradition;
- demonstrated support of student success which enhances student life in the classroom, in student services and in co-curricular activities; familiarity and commitment to Achieving the Dream efforts desirable;
- effective management skills to support resource development, financial management, capital improvement, team building, strategic planning as well as faculty/staff recruitment, retention and professional development;
- a successful record of promoting partnerships and coalitions with various constituencies including higher education institutions, public schools, business, labor and other groups as well as strong advocacy skills utilized in representing the needs of the campus at the District, in the community and all levels of government;
- strong decisive leadership experience and a decision making style based on collaborative relationships which seek to empower others;
- evidence of the application and implementation of technology in both the educational and administrative environment;
- effective communication and interpersonal skills with a capacity to lead change and motivate people to build a cohesive campus community;
- a track record of effective leadership in establishing a positive campus presence and image in the community;
- successful senior-level administrative experience required; earned doctorate preferred, master’s degree from an accredited university required.
